Overview
On 17 January 2025, the government of the Republic of Indonesia, through the Ministry of Industry, issued Regulation of the Minister of Industry Regulation No. 7 of 2025 concerning the Mandatory Enforcement of Indonesian National Standards for Electronic Households (“MoI Reg. 7/2025”) which primarily requires to adopt the Indonesian National Standards (Standar Nasional Indonesia – “SNI”) for certain electronic household products to be sold and distributed in Indonesia (“SNI Obligation”). Previously, the requirements for the adoption of SNI standards for electronic household products (such as air conditioners, refrigerators, kitchen appliances, water pumps, electric irons, etc.) were governed under several Ministry of Industry regulations. However, with the enactment of MoI Reg. 7/2025, all electronic household appliances are now regulated under a single, consolidated framework.
Scope of the SNI Obligation
In fulfilling the SNI Obligation, MoI Reg. 7/2025 mandates that both domestic manufacturers (National Industrial Company) and Overseas Manufacturer must first obtain an SNI Certificate along with the Approval for Affixion of the SNI Certificate (Surat Persetujuan Penggunaan Tanda SNI – “SPPT SNI”). These certifications must be secured before any electronic household products can be distributed, marketed, or sold in Indonesia.
SNI Certificate and SPPT SNI Application
In general, the MoI Reg. 7/2025 provides the procedure for the followings certification and approval related to SNI:
- Procedure for SNI Certificate Application (Article 9 – Article 19 of MoI Reg. 7/2025)
Specifically for Overseas Manufacturer, the MoI Reg. 7/2025 stipulates that it must fulfil several requirements, among others:- conducting business in electronic household industry;
- owning its own brand/trademark for electronics household products;
- operating its own production facilities; and
- appointing an Authorized Representative in Indonesia.
In addition, the Overseas Manufacturer may only appoint 1 (one) Authorized Representative. On the other hand, the Authorized Representative must also meet certain requirements under the MoI Reg. 7/2025, such as, possessing a warehouse located in the same city/district with the domicile of the Authorized Representative and holding the necessary licenses to import electronic household products made by the Overseas Manufacturer. - Procedure for SPPT SNI Application (Article 30 – Article 33 of MoI Reg. 7/2025)
Once the electronic household products meet the SNI requirements and obtain the SNI Certificate, the products must be labeled with the official SNI logo. This labelling process can be done after acquiring the approval to use the SNI logo, granted in the form of SPPT SNI.
In view of the above, it is important to note that there is a possibility that the registered holder of SNI Certificate could be different with the registered holder of SPPT SNI, depends on the relevant scheme of the production organisation structure.
Routes of Application of SPPT SNI Under the MoI Reg. 7/2025
The Electronic Household which has complied with the SNI Certificate as mentioned above must be affixed with the SNI mark. Such marking activities may only be undertaken after having approval from the Ministry of Industry office, which is called as the SPPT SNI.
The following is a brief of diagram chart of the routes of application of SPPT SNI which is dependent on the relevant organisation structure.

Effective Date of the SNI Obligation
The SNI obligation will come into effect 6 months from the date of enactment of MoI Reg. 7/2025 or will come into effect on 24 July 2025.
In addition to the above, we have been advised by the officer of the Ministry of Industry that detail and formal socialization of the MoI Reg. 7/2025 estimated will be launched around June 2025, and desk for submission of the relevant application will also be available in June 2025.
